Walking
The hills and mountains of Lesotho were made for walking, and the hundreds of kilometres of mountain trails offer a wonderful opportunity of discovering the best of Lesotho.
The experiences are unforgettable: spectacular views, bracing mountain air, the unforgettable sight of a rare Bald Ibis teaching its young to fly, a swim in the cool waters of a mountain pool fed by a cascading waterfall, or picnicking in fields filled with mimosa or peach blossom.
Walking tours start from most of mountain lodges, or a driver can take you into the mountains to a suitable point to begin a walk, and then pick you up at the end of the day. Ask for a local guide if you are going long distances. As is in mountainous terrain throughout the world, walkers are advised to bring warm, waterproof clothing, wear stout walking shoes or boots, and carry a compass, torch and other emergency equipment.
