Vegetation
The most striking aspect of Lesotho's landscape is the lack of trees. The country consists mostly of grasslands with woody shrubs providing firewood for villagers. There are some trees - most houses have a few peach
trees, and willow trees are found along the rivers. In the Lowlands poplars are often found in and around erosion gullies. Eucalyptus has been planted in some woodlots.
Most wildlife has long since been hunted to extinction in Lesotho. Survivors include the grey rhebok (supposedly inedible for humans) and some of the smaller predators such as jackals. Bird life is plentiful and you frequently see vultures and eagles soaring on thermals.
